LG Air Conditioner Error Code CH07

DIY-friendlyReviewed November 2026Checked against manufacturer documentation
What this code means
CH07: Indoor units set to different operating modes

On a multi-split system all indoor units must cool or heat together, because they share one outdoor unit. This code simply means one unit is asking for the opposite mode; it is a settings conflict, not a breakdown.

Also shown as: 07, 7

Applies to: Multi-split systems with two or more indoor units

Common causes

  1. One indoor unit set to cooling while another is heating
  2. A remote left in a different mode, for example after its batteries were changed
  3. Auto mode on one unit conflicting with the master unit

What to check, in order

Safety first. Switch the unit off at the breaker before checking anything. Never open the refrigerant circuit or the electrical boxes of the indoor or outdoor unit — refrigerant work is licensed work. The checks on this page stay on the outside: power, filters, remote control and airflow.
  1. Set every indoor unit to the same mode, all cooling or all heating, using each unit's own remote.
  2. Turn the conflicting unit off and back on after changing its mode.
  3. If all units show the same mode and the code stays, switch the power off at the breaker for five minutes and try again.

Clear the code and test

  1. Fix what the checks above found first — a filter cleaned, an obstruction removed, the breaker restored. Clearing the code without fixing the cause only brings it back.
  2. Restore power at the breaker and switch the unit on with the remote.
  3. Run the unit in cooling or heating for ten to fifteen minutes and watch whether the code returns; some codes only appear after the compressor has run for a while.
  4. If the unit runs with no code, the fault is cleared. If the code returns, write down the code and whether the indoor or outdoor unit shows it before calling a technician — it speeds up the diagnosis.

When to call a professional

Most cases are solved by the checks above. Book a technician if any of these apply:

  • The code comes back after you have run the checks and a test cycle.
  • You smell burning, see sparks or scorch marks, or the breaker trips.
  • Water is leaking and you cannot stop it.
  • The fix needs panels opened beyond what your manual describes, or a part tested with a meter, and you are not set up for that.

When you call, give the brand, the code CH07, your model number (on a label on the side of the indoor unit) and the checks you already ran. It shortens the visit.
