LG Oven Error Code F3

DIY checks firstReviewed November 2026Checked against manufacturer documentation
What this code means
F3: Keypad error: a control key is shorted or stuck

The control registered one key as pressed continuously for over a minute, which usually means a stuck key or a short inside the keypad membrane. Cleaning and a power reset clear minor cases; a keypad that shorts on the same key every time has to be replaced.

Also shown as: F-3

Common causes

  1. A touchpad key is stuck or held down by a warped panel
  2. Grease, moisture or cleaner residue shorting the keypad membrane
  3. Damaged keypad ribbon cable or connector
  4. Failed control board keypad input circuit

What to check, in order

Safety first. Switch the appliance off and unplug it before checking anything inside it. If you are not comfortable with any step, stop and call a technician.
  1. Press CLEAR/OFF. If something was leaning against the panel or a key feels stuck, free it and see whether the code clears.
  2. Wipe the control panel with a slightly damp cloth and dry it well; liquid cleaner sprayed directly on the keys can seep in and short them.
  3. Cut power at the breaker for a few minutes to reset the control, then restore power and test the keys one at a time.
  4. With power off, check that the keypad ribbon cable is fully seated in the control board connector and not creased or corroded.
  5. If one key triggers the code every time it is touched, the keypad (touch panel) needs replacement.

Clear the code and test

  1. Fix what the checks above found first. Clearing the code without fixing the cause only brings it back.
  2. Plug the appliance back in and restore its water supply if it has one.
  3. Run the shortest programme and watch the point where the code appeared before.
  4. If the programme finishes with no code, the fault is cleared. If the code returns, write it down before calling a technician — it speeds up the diagnosis.

When to call a professional

Most cases are solved by the checks above. Book a technician if any of these apply:

  • The code comes back after you have run the checks and a test cycle.
  • You smell burning, see sparks or scorch marks, or the breaker trips.
  • Water is leaking and you cannot stop it at the tap.
  • The fix needs panels opened beyond what your manual describes, or a part tested with a meter, and you are not set up for that.

When you call, give the brand, the code F3, your model number (on a label inside the door or on the back) and the checks you already ran. It shortens the visit.
