LG Oven Error Code F1

DIY checks firstReviewed November 2026Checked against manufacturer documentation
What this code means
F1: Oven sensor error: temperature sensor circuit is open

The control saw the oven temperature sensor circuit stay open during cooking, so it shut the heat down. On double ovens the combined display F1F4 points to the same fault. A failed sensor is the usual cause, with damaged wiring or a bad connector next in line.

Also shown as: F-1, F1F4

Parts that may be involved
Oven temperature sensor, Sensor wiring harness (+1 more below)
Parts are model-specific; see the note below before ordering.

Common causes

  1. Oven temperature sensor (thermistor) has failed open
  2. Sensor wiring harness damaged or disconnected
  3. Corroded or loose sensor connector at the control board
  4. Failed electronic control board sensor circuit

What to check, in order

Safety first. Switch the appliance off and unplug it before checking anything inside it. If you are not comfortable with any step, stop and call a technician.
  1. Press CLEAR/OFF, switch off the breaker for a few minutes, then restore power and retry. If the code returns as soon as cooking starts, the fault is real.
  2. Let the oven cool fully. The sensor is the thin metal probe on the back wall inside the oven; check that it is firmly mounted and its connector is not loose or heat-damaged.
  3. With power off, test the sensor with a multimeter. A healthy LG oven sensor reads roughly 1,080 ohms at room temperature; an open (infinite) reading confirms the sensor has failed.
  4. Inspect the wiring between the sensor and the control board for pinched, burnt or rodent-damaged sections.
  5. If the sensor and wiring test good, the control board is the remaining suspect and is a professional repair.

Clear the code and test

  1. Fix what the checks above found first. Clearing the code without fixing the cause only brings it back.
  2. Plug the appliance back in and restore its water supply if it has one.
  3. Run the shortest programme and watch the point where the code appeared before.
  4. If the programme finishes with no code, the fault is cleared. If the code returns, write it down before calling a technician — it speeds up the diagnosis.

When to call a professional

Most cases are solved by the checks above. Book a technician if any of these apply:

  • The code comes back after you have run the checks and a test cycle.
  • You smell burning, see sparks or scorch marks, or the breaker trips.
  • Water is leaking and you cannot stop it at the tap.
  • The fix needs panels opened beyond what your manual describes, or a part tested with a meter, and you are not set up for that.

When you call, give the brand, the code F1, your model number (on a label inside the door or on the back) and the checks you already ran. It shortens the visit.
