LG Dryer Error Code d80

DIY-friendlyReviewed November 2026Checked against manufacturer documentation
What this code means
d80: Flow Sense warning: the exhaust duct is about 80% blocked

Flow Sense has measured the exhaust duct at roughly 80% blocked, so the dryer will run poorly and take much longer to dry. Clean the lint filter and the full vent path; on gas models the same code can also appear when the gas supply is off.

Lint filter, Exhaust duct and transition hose (+1 more below)
Parts are model-specific; see the note below before ordering.

Common causes

  1. Lint buildup inside the exhaust duct
  2. Transition hose behind the dryer kinked or crushed
  3. Outside vent hood clogged or its flap stuck shut
  4. Lint filter clogged or coated with residue
  5. On gas models, low or interrupted gas supply (LG notes d80 can also flag a lack of gas)

What to check, in order

Safety first. Switch the appliance off and unplug it before checking anything inside it. If you are not comfortable with any step, stop and call a technician.
  1. Clean the lint filter; if it looks coated, wash it with soap and water and let it dry fully before refitting it
  2. Pull the dryer forward gently and check the transition hose behind it is not kinked, crushed or sagging full of lint
  3. Disconnect the hose and vacuum lint out of the hose and as far into the house duct as you can safely reach
  4. Start the dryer and check outside that the vent hood flap opens and warm air blows out strongly
  5. Run a load again; if the code comes back quickly, have the whole duct run cleaned by a vent cleaning company
  6. On a gas model, also confirm the gas shutoff valves are fully open and other gas appliances work

Clear the code and test

  1. Fix what the checks above found first. Clearing the code without fixing the cause only brings it back.
  2. Plug the appliance back in and restore its water supply if it has one.
  3. Run the shortest programme and watch the point where the code appeared before.
  4. If the programme finishes with no code, the fault is cleared. If the code returns, write it down before calling a technician — it speeds up the diagnosis.

When to call a professional

Most cases are solved by the checks above. Book a technician if any of these apply:

  • The code comes back after you have run the checks and a test cycle.
  • You smell burning, see sparks or scorch marks, or the breaker trips.
  • Water is leaking and you cannot stop it at the tap.
  • The fix needs panels opened beyond what your manual describes, or a part tested with a meter, and you are not set up for that.

When you call, give the brand, the code d80, your model number (on a label inside the door or on the back) and the checks you already ran. It shortens the visit.
